A study in how sound design can express internal emotion and psychological tension.
Sound Design: Gabe Lake
In this project, I explore the psychological and emotional impact of sound through immersive audio environments. I use recordings from locations such as cities, beaches, and malls, along with human voices and everyday noises, to examine how different environments influence emotion, memory, and mental experience. By combining natural ambience with artificial and technological sounds, I create a layered soundscape that reflects feelings of calmness, overstimulation, isolation, nostalgia, and connection. Instead of relying on traditional data or visuals, I use sound itself as a form of emotional storytelling, allowing listeners to experience shifting psychological states through atmosphere, space, and audio.
